Paid Work Experience
Our high school transition program offers a variety of choices for students who want to sample adult services in the community.
For high school students enrolled in local transition programs, we offer paid work experience in our packaging and assembly business, Subcon Industries. This program is coordinated with staff from the student's transition program. High school staff transports students to our site in LaGrange Park, where students receive vocational counseling and assessments, in addition to completing work and receiving a bi-weekly pay check from Helping Hand. As students reach graduation, they may qualify for our Employment Services, including job preparation and placement in the community after high school.
The student's high school coordinates this program with Helping Hand. Please ask your transition specialist if your high school has arranged a work experience for your school. Our Employment Services work directly with the Department of Human Services Division of Rehabilitative Services.
