Helping Hand was originally started as a grass roots non-profit by parents of children with disabilities in 1955, at a time before special education existed. More than 50 years later, the parents and family members of our clients continue that dedication to making Helping Hand the best that it can be, continuing to create a sense of community among family members, and to work alongside staff to promote the welfare of our clients.
Membership in the Helping Hand Family Association is open to anyone with a family member who receives services at Helping Hand.
We sponsor several events each year, including an agency-wide picnic, an ice cream social and a spring fashion show.
Goals of the Helping Hand Family Association
- To foster a sense of community among member families by developing regularly scheduled social and informational programming.
- To give families an opportunity to network and learn from one another in a casual setting.
- To support the mission and vision of Helping Hand.
